Since Ally's father passed away, she's isolated herself from friends and her stepmother.  She finally finds someone she can talk to, and who seems to care about her.  It would be perfect except that he's a merman (Jaleen).  When a witch offers to turn her into a mermaid in exchange for her soul, Ally accepts.  Now she has thirty days to make Jaleen fall in love with her or she dies soulless.  If he loves her, then she gets to keep her soul.  The only problem is getting Jaleen to fall in love with her is harder than she thought.  Ally begins to question her feelings for him, especially after she meets Jaleen's cousin.
