I had a wonderful time with writer friends Sheryl Scarborough, Edith Cohn, and Jennifer Bosworth (as well as special one-night guests Evette & Billie!) at the beach house we rented in Port Hueneme a week ago. During the day we'd each go into our hidey holes to write. Edith and I were usually in lounge chairs on the patio overlooking the ocean. I always had my trusty Harry Potter blanket over my legs--it was cold there! Sheryl gravitated to an antique desk in the living room, while Jenn took over the high dining room table. In the evenings we would break open a bottle of wine (or two...or three) and talk the evening away. Writing is such a solitary activity that when we get together with other novelists there are a ton of things you want to say to each other.
Not only was it fun, but I also finished quite a lot of revision there.
Sheryl and Edith posted photos of the retreat on their blogs in case you're interested.
Also, Casey McCormick added a terrific profile of my agent Jamie Weiss Chilton on her blog Literary Rambles.
